nce there was a grasshopper that was cold all winter but loved the summertime. In the summer, she played golf (very low handicap), tennis (excellent forearm), and drove her kids all over creation to camps and fairs and everything else under the hot, summer sun. In the evenings when all was calm, the grasshopper thought about how it was so nice to be warm.
In the meantime, there was an ant that lived next store. She, too, was cold all fall and winter. Although she wasn't as good at golf or tennis (bad backswings in both cases), she was just as busy with her brood. But in the calm evenings, she took out her knitting basket to make six legged body sweaters for the gang. When the grasshopper saw the knitting bag one evening, she said, "Why are you knitting now? That's for the fireside on cold winter nights. Summer is for fun!" The ant replied, "Shows what you know! Rather than slugging down another gin and tonic every night, I keep my fingers nimble and my mind busy. I have more energy during the day and, best of all, new sweaters and scarves for the first chilly evening!" The grasshopper said, "Bah!" and sipped her you-know-what.
Come September, the ant and her gang were throwing around the football in their matching maize & blue sweaters while the grasshopper was racing down to the discount store for a cheesy polyester number that was about as warm as yesterday's newspaper. The moral of the story is: Get knitting in this summer - because your kindly old ant said so!
